Your Roof Is An Energy System
Your roof affects more than you might realise. It obviously keeps you dry — but a roof system serves several other purposes, and one of them is a direct impact on how much energy the house consumes.
Our team performs a full inspection of the roof system to determine how effective and efficient it actually is. Every roof is different, and working out what’s performing and what needs addressing is genuinely expert work. It all starts with the energy evaluation.
There are two primary factors we look at when examining a roof during an energy evaluation, and both are worth understanding.
1. Insulation
Insulation limits temperature transfer — keeping cool or warm air where it belongs. The right attic insulation carries a high R-value and, just as importantly, is installed properly throughout the whole attic rather than in patches.
We begin the evaluation by inspecting your insulation levels and determining whether they’re adequate. If they’re not, we can offer solutions — from traditional batt insulation to a full blown-in insulation system.
2. Ventilation
Your attic also needs to breathe, and this is the part most people overlook. Air needs to enter through the soffit vents and leave through the roof vents. Without that flow, attic temperatures climb, moisture builds, and hot air gets forced back down into the living space — which is what drives the energy bill up.
We assess attic ventilation from intake to exhaust as part of the same visit.
The Roof Covering Matters Too
The material on the roof plays a part as well. Certain coverings like tile or metal reflect heat and can help lower costs. But at the heart of it, good insulation and strong ventilation do the heavy lifting.
What The Evaluation Covers
A Comprehensive Look At The Whole System
We look at every aspect of the roofing system to establish what’s working properly and what can be done to improve your energy costs.
-
Insulation Levels
We inspect what’s actually in the attic, measure the coverage, and tell you whether it meets the level your home should have.
-
Ventilation Flow
Intake at the soffits, exhaust at the ridge, and whether the two are balanced. Blocked intake is one of the most common faults we find.
-
The Roof Covering
How the material currently on the roof performs against heat, and whether a different covering would make a measurable difference.
-
Options & A Clear Estimate
We talk you through the options and what each would correct, then give you a clear estimate covering the cost and the improvement you can expect for it.
